GENERAL ELECTRIC: REAL ESTATE MANAGEMENT

OVERVIEW

In Fall of 2014, GE Capital Real Estate was looking to revamp their legacy real estate management tools. Policy 5.0, one tool in particular that needed special attention, is a web application that is used to manage rules/regulations related to the real estate market.

MY ROLE

I worked to revamp Policy 5.0 in the span of 6 weeks. I was the sole UX designer and researcher on this product.

THE DESIGN PROBLEM

The current legacy product uses outdated UI platform and has been perceived to be too cumbersome for its users.

THE PROCESS

1, Created flowchart: With an initial understanding of the user pain points in the legacy product, I created a flowchart of an ideal user experience.
2. Created prototype: I translated the flowchart into a high-fidelity prototype to test with users.
3. Validated prototype with users: I conducted usability testing with a few users to ensure the new experience was solving the users' problems and helping them reach their goals.
4. Repeat: Taking the feedback from users, I revisited the flowchart and prototype to incorporate the feedback. I went through this process a total of 3 times to get to the final designs.

OUTCOMES

In the span of 6 weeks, I worked with the development team to get this product revamped and out in the market.

CHALLENGES

  1. Designing for data that will expand over time / designing for scale.
  2. Designing for role-based access.
